Dhoms Kitchen - Cooran

Eclectic and just a little quirky, the hamlet of Cooran is best explored on foot to discover its hidden charms.  A wander down the main street, offers a delightful mix of hipster meets heritage, with century old wooden buildings home to a wide variety of offerings from second hand treasures to a brewery and some great selections for grabbing a bite to eat.

The town is home to several parks, with a terrific playground in the main street at Pioneer Park, a BMX dirt track at King Park and a skate park and basketball in Straker Park and Chris Kenny Park.  It is also well-worth a drive up the 5km winding dirt of Tableland Road to reach the James McKane Lookout Park for a perfect picnic spot with magnificent views of coast and country, picnic huts and wood BBQs.

Cooran is named after "guran'' or "kuran'', meaning tall in the Kabi indigenous language. Experts say this might refer to Mount Cooran or the tall trees that grow in the area including the Moreton Bay Ash.  The town is surrounded by farmlands and natural beauty.  The Woondum National Park rock pools day use area is accessible from Cooran along 10km of 4WD tracks through eucalypt forest and rainforest.  The National Park is also popular for horse riding, mountain biking and hiking.  Access to three of the trails on the Noosa Trails network is available from the town.

The Cooran Tall Trees Festival in October is not to be missed.  For more events in Cooran, click here to visit our What's On Guide.
